Valve Types Classified by Ball

The valve can be ball types and non-ball types.

As the name implies, the ball valve has a small ball. The cheap sprayer’s ball is made of glass and the expensive sprayer’s ball is made of metal. However, the non-ball valve doesn’t have any small ball. The defination of ball and non-ball structures is just the primary classfication. Both structures have a few variants. The left pictures are the most general ball valve structure which has two springs and the XJT non-ball valve, separately.

The mechanisms of spraying of ball and non-ball valves are different. Ball structure is a kind of non-contacting valve that switches off along with the ball goes down drived by the combination of its own gravity and the initially increased liquid pressure when the finger starts to press. Non-ball structure is a kind of contacting valve that switches off along with the plastic part goes down drived by only finger pressing. Therefore, the controlability of switching on/off of non-ball valve is better than ball valve. It means the spraying stability is better.

Another difference of ball and non-ball valves pumps is the strength of spraying. The non-ball valve has stronger spraying and thus the mist is finer. The reason is the channel, which liquid goes out, opens via pure liquid pressure generated by pressing the liquid in the sealed (valve-off status) space inside the pump for the non-ball valve. Such pressure is an explosive power so it can generate big spraying strength. However, for ball valve, the channel opens via pressure from the compressure of the smaller spring forced by finger. The finger isn’t intended to press the spring individually. The spring is pressed at the same time the finger presses the piston. Therefore the pressure for the ball valve isn’t as strong as for the non-ball valve.

The stronger spraying can make finer mist. However, it has a little disadvantage. The necessary power of the finger pressing is bigger for the non-ball than the ball valves. That means the finger is easier to feel tired when presses the non-ball valve pumps. Therefore, the design of a non-ball valve is to seek the balance of spraying strength and the finger pressing force strength.

Another point necessary to be mentioned is the defective rate when assembling. The controlability of small ball is relatively difficult, so the defective rate is higer for the ball valve than the non-valve. The consequent concern is the requirement of quality inspection is higer thus the cost production becomes higher.

Summary the advantage and disadvantage of the two types of valves below. The non-ball valve has advantages on better spraying ability, finer mist, low defective rate of assembly. However, the ball valve has better proformances on smaller finger force.

Actually, non-valve has a special feature, upside-down spraying. Will explain in another separated section.
